Talk to an Expert →Where Microsoft licensing costs get out of control
Microsoft licensing touches every part of a mid-market IT budget: seats, storage, compute, add-ons, support. Most of it was priced once, at the first purchase, and never looked at again.
IT teams end up on the wrong SKU, paying for features nobody uses, or locked into a term that stopped fitting the business two years ago. None of that shows up on a dashboard. It shows up when someone finally reads the invoice line by line.
Microsoft's licensing rules changed on you
Microsoft retired the Gold and Silver partner tiers in 2022 and replaced them with Solutions Partner designations tied to specific workloads: Security, Data & AI, Infrastructure, Digital & App Innovation, and Modern Work. A partner's credentials now say exactly which Microsoft workloads they're proven on, not a generic badge.
License purchasing changed too. Microsoft's New Commerce Experience is now the standard way partners transact license-based subscriptions, with monthly or annual terms and a narrower cancellation window than the old system allowed. Premier Support, the flat-fee support plan Microsoft used to sell direct customers, is no longer available to new customers. It's been replaced by Microsoft Unified, a different support model with its own cost structure.
Enterprise Agreements are shifting as well. Multiple Microsoft licensing advisors report that Microsoft has been limiting straight EA renewals for organizations roughly in the 500 to 2,400 seat range and pulled back the volume discount tiers that used to reward EA customers with more users. Mid-market orgs in that range are increasingly steered toward a Cloud Solution Provider or a direct Microsoft Customer Agreement, neither of which carries an EA's negotiated seat pricing unless a partner is managing the move.
The CSP program, run by CloudServus
Flexible terms
- Monthly or annual commitments through Microsoft's New Commerce Experience, instead of one three-year lock-in
- Partial license upgrades and mid-term changes without waiting on a full renewal cycle
Support built into the price
- Partner-led technical support at no added cost, escalated through Microsoft's Advanced Support for Partners program when it needs to go further
- One point of contact for licensing and technical issues instead of a Microsoft ticket queue
Simplified billing
- One invoice across Microsoft 365, Azure, and Dynamics 365 instead of separate billing per product
- Billed in your currency, on a consistent monthly date, under a single Microsoft Customer Agreement
Ongoing licensing strategy
- SKU-level reviews that catch overlap, unused seats, and the wrong edition before it renews on autopilot
- Regular business reviews so licensing keeps pace with headcount and workload changes
Picking a CSP partner that earns the switch
CSP partners aren't interchangeable. Plenty resell Microsoft licenses at a slim markup and stop there. The ones worth hiring go through your existing licensing line by line and flag what to cut, in addition to what to add.
CloudServus runs a Microsoft Licensing Assessment before any switch. We look at your current programs, SKUs, and pricing against what your organization uses, then hand you a plan with the gaps and the savings attached.
