Microsoft folded Power BI into Fabric, a single SaaS platform that also handles data movement, warehousing, and data engineering. The reports and semantic models you build in Power BI now sit in the same environment as the pipelines and lakehouses that feed them, reading from one shared data store called OneLake.
The licensing is changing to match. Microsoft is retiring standalone Power BI Premium per-capacity licenses (P-SKUs) in favor of Fabric capacity (F-SKUs). If your organization is still on Premium, that's a move worth planning on your timeline, not at renewal.

Right-size your capacity instead of overpaying for it
Fabric capacity is priced by size, from small F-SKUs for a single team up to large capacities for organization-wide rollouts. We size to your actual workload and usage pattern, not the biggest SKU on the price list.
One detail worth knowing before you budget: on capacities of F64 and larger, viewers with a free license can see Power BI content without a per-user Pro license, as long as they have a viewer role on the workspace. For organizations distributing reports widely, that changes which capacity size actually makes sense.
